freebies in air india

FREEBIES IN AIR INDIA

It refers to shocking exposure about Air India’s Joint Managing Director Vishwapati Trivedi misusing rules to have as many as 116 free air-tickets to his family-members during his short stint of just 16 months as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of country’s national airliner. Union Civil Aviation Ministry should investigate how an anti-public circular Reference Number fin/rules/48/252 dated 28.01.1997 was issued (and subsequently misused by Vishwapati Trivedi) by India’s official public-carrier to change definition of family for granting free tickets to Air India employees to include spouse, children, parents, brothers, sisters, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law. Action must be taken by the Ministry against high-profile IAS officer for kisusing rules to benefit his family-members. Rules should be tightened to plug loopholes in rules providing such princely facilities to those in Air India or even in other public-sector airlines if existing there too.
