17 16 yr old getting pregnant through a pact amongst themselves in USA

Dear Rameshji,

Namaskar! I like your comments and at least you had the courge to write your views.

1. As for child marriage in Hinduism and in India, that was the custom in those days and those girls did not get or continue any sort of eduction but went to their in-laws where they were playing gudda gudiya with their husband until they came of age and then assimilated into the house hold chore which was their part in the society!

2. Here the girls are getting into schools for education and learning and many of them fool around. On top of that they have brought themselves into a miserable life for themselves and the offspring and to some extent to their parents for the rest of their presence on this planet corner which is US of A. They don't say for nothing that money is the root cause of all evils! Because these are kids whose parents can afford to send them to school and more.

3. As for the cases of Kunti, Ahlya etc. you mention they were exceptions to the rule and not the common practise which has happened in any society, in the past, now and in the future.

4. But to make a pact at 16 yrs of age for seventeen of those 'kids' to get pregnant and have babies at the same time, no doubt, is the result of this affluent part of the world full of evils for whom there is no guidance or even the parents have no time for their children, etc. etc. Of course America is the leader of the world these days, in most of the areas, and especially the Indian 'modernized' vanar sena will copy it all sooner or later and not vice versa.

5. I wish that all citizens here, if they want some guidance in the right direction, follow the Hindu religion and Buddha's teachings just as they are learning yoga, meditation and nature cure etc.
which may at least put at least some of them on the right path.

Jai Sitaramjiki, Jai Radhakrishnjiiki, Jai Veer Hanuman,

Bhavdiy,

Why is teen pregnancy GHOR KALIYUG IF it occurs in the west. Ladies just one generation ago had complete family by the age of 16 years. Child marriage in India was performed when kids were under 3 years and by 12 years girls were dispatched to their inlaws' homes.

AGAIN - REFER TO HINDU SCRIPTURES..KUNTI HAD ILLEGITIMATE KARNA, SHE ALSO HAD 5 KIDS FROM 5 DIFFERENT DIETIES !!!

What about seduction of Ahlya, Ansuya etc ???

The great hulabaloo is about all girls planning to have kids at the same time..so did not 3 wivws of Dasrath conceive at the same time ??? Kunti and Gandhari were also given eggs to conceive at the same time !!! What about mothers of Garuda and Vasuki naag...same story..

Just get off your high horse..these youngsters are just falling prey to peer culture. They should be pitied for lack of parental, pruestly, police and politicians'n guidance.

Western society is in tatters..and kids pay the price.

These teens inflicting on themselves a life of suffering and regret!

US fears of teen 'pregnancy pact'

Officials in the US state of Massachusetts are investigating how 17 teenage girls from the same school have become pregnant.

The number is four times as high as the year before at Gloucester High School.

There are reports that some of the girls - none of whom is older than 16 - entered into a pact to have their babies together.

The girls and their families have so far made no comment. Officials are also investigating the ages of the fathers.
Some are believed to be in their twenties and could face the possibility of being charged with having sex with minors.

It is illegal to have sex with anyone younger than 16 in Massachusetts.

Disturbing

Some of the school's own staff believe the sharp increase in the number of pregnancies was no accident.

.

Dr Elizabeth Guthrie, a paediatric psychiatrist at New York's Columbia University, told the BBC that some girls might be viewing pregnancy as a fast-track to adulthood and independence.

"It may give you an opportunity for unconditional love and attention from the baby," she said.

Local teenager Amanda Ireland, a mother who has just graduated from Gloucester High School, offered a blunt warning to other girls.

"Don't try to get pregnant. People say they know what it's like because they have younger siblings, but they really have no idea," she told the BBC.

David Landry, a researcher at the Guttmacher Institute, a New York-based non-profit group focusing on reproductive issues, said the declining teenage pregnancy rate of recent years appeared to be reversing.

Birth rates for girls aged 15 to 17 rose by 3% in 2006, the first increase since 1991, according to preliminary data released in December by the National Center for Health Statistics.

This trend was highlighted on Thursday when Britney Spears' 17-year-old sister Jamie Lynn, star of a popular television show Zoey 101, gave birth to a baby girl, according to People magazine.

But Mr Landry cautioned against attributing the pact or the worrying statistics to Hollywood. Recent hits have included Juno, in which a teenager gets pregnant and decides to have the baby, and Knocked Up, a comedy about a one-night stand.

"The trend emerged before those movies," he said.
